PESSIMISTIC Jasper the parrot has given up the habit of whistling ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’ after his recent kidnap ordeal.
The 20-year-old African grey was reunited with his owners following an appeal by the Boston Standard which was shared via online and later picked up by the Daily Mail.
The pet bird, which whistles the distinctive song from The Life of Brian and says his owners’ names, was stolen from his cage in Horbling Lane, Stickney, the previous Friday.
Six days went by, and his owners - the Bonnett family - were left devastated and concerned for his welfare.
But yesterday (Thursday), he was spotted on the pavement at the end of the road by a passer-by who threw a coat over him and caught him. With the help of a neighbour he was then returned home.
“We were so relieved to have him back,” Richard Bonnett said.
“We couldn’t believe our luck and my dad is over the moon.”
The bird has been left stressed by the ordeal of being taken by strangers and plucked out some of his own feathers.
“He’s been very quiet and hasn’t really said anything or whistled the Monty Python tune since he’s been back,” said Richard.
“I think he’s just pleased to be back in his cage, as he’s not keen to come out at the moment. Once he’s settled back in, the feathers should grow back.”
