Letter: Horrified at the thought of the return of the Five Lamps

READING my Standard today I was horrified that Boston Borough Council is thinking of putting back the Five Lamps in the Market Place.

If I remember rightly, they had to be removed because of the New Year’s Eve revellers climbing them and causing a lot of nuisance.

Think again.

I can remember 70 years ago when the Pump Square Methodist People used to stand round the lamps and sing praises to God and thank him for the New Year.

No-one objected or disturbed us but of course that would be called a nuisance now, singing to God.

I also do not think the council should do away with any car parking spaces in the town. I think the Market Place is alright, ‘leave well alone’ I say.
