LETTER: I wonder if they regret the sale of the toilets now?


In the Observer column of the May 21 edition the writer commented: “After disposing of the Assembly Rooms with no request to the buyers to retain the toilets there, the council must have been aware of the concerns.”

Actually, when the sale of the Assembly Rooms had been announced, an elderly ratepayer made a proposal to the council.

It was that there was a simple solution about the toilets. It was for the council to contact the buyer and offer to arrange to rent the toilets.

Therefore the toilets could continue to be open for use.

The elderly ratepayer also had a letter in The Standard.

This proposal was disregarded.

Now, I wonder, in view of the recent publicity about this, if there is regret that this proposal was not considered.
