LETTER: Our club has much to offer - why not come along and see?

I write regarding Mr Bull’s ideas on a new athletic club in last week’s Standard. Boston and District Athletic Club offer all he suggests and much more.

We train on Tuesday and Thursday (7 -9pm) and Sunday mornings (10-12noon). We have Boston Grammar School train Wednesdays 4-6pm and Friday evenings 5-7pm we have a kids club for Primary School children.

We had two fantastic days on a Tuesday with 88 and a Thursday with 85 primary school children for an ‘Olympic Experience’, all indoors, last July.

We already offer a very friendly family atmosphere with several parents joining in training and helping with coaching and officiating.

We have the most qualified and experienced athletics coaches in Boston by far with local, national, international and paralympic successes.

At the same time we welcome all abilities.

In our 1500 sq/metres of indoor facilities are, pole vault and high jump beds, a long jump pit (the only indoor one in Lincolnshire), we cater for sprints and hurdles and have crash mats for these.

We have six pairs of reversa boards and two shot put circles, an indoor discus/hammer cage, the only club with one in the country. We also cater for the javelin inside.

On top of all of this we have a weights area, a conditioning area, a medicine ball wall and our own tuck shop.

We have organised many events at the ‘B-HIVE’ on Punchbowl Lane, Boston, including the Lincolnshire Sportshall Selection Trials, invitation shot and jumps competitions and primary open cross-country races on our field. Athletes come to train regularly from Horncastle, Skegness, Sleaford, Sutterton and Boston.

It is about time we all forget about our personal prejudices and be professional and put the children (athletes) first.

All are welcome to come and see what we do.
