Boston’s Labour Councillors were encouraged to read recently that Glasgow City Council will deposit £10 in a credit union account for every new secondary school student in the city from this August.
The decision was made following a study into the scale and impact of payday lending.
We think this is a really positive way to encourage young people to learn the value of saving and borrowing from reputable sources and we believe the introduction of a similar scheme in Boston would help many people avoid the pitfalls of pay day loans.
In fact we’d go even further, we would be happy to be part of a campaign warning people not to use payday loans.
