TOM Baxter has been named as Boston Cricket Club’s new captain.

Baxter has captained the all-conquering Sunday Firsts in the Lincoln Premier Division, but was nominated to make the step up at last week’s annual meeting.

Previous captain Paul Timby has moved across to become club coach, taking the role left vacant after Elliot Wilson left the area.

Baxter - who earned a county call-up this year - will aim to help Boston Firsts improve upon the season’s third-placed finish in the Lincs ECB Premier.

“It is a very competitive competition and it is up to us to maintain the high standards in 2012, that served us so well in 2011,” he said.

Matt Ward will not return from his native Australia for the 2012 season, although the club is seeking an overseas addition.
