Tom Baxter is rallying his Boston Cricket Club troops ahead of their top-of-the-table clash against Grantham.

The Mayflower men currently hold a 10-point lead over their second-placed opponents in the South Lincs and Border League Premier Division, even if Grantham remain favourites to win the title.

But as Boston prepare to travel to face their rivals, captain Baxter (pictured) firmly believes his side are good enough to get a positive result.

“Grantham are definitely the favourites,” he said. “They have brought in five players that have all played in the ECB Lincolnshire Premier League.

“There is no reason why we can’t beat them. We have players that can win games at this level.

“We will have to be on our game though. I think it is fair to say that both sides haven’t really been tested yet.

“It will be a completely different game to what we have had so far. If you don’t perform, you won’t win.”

Boston were turned over easily at Grantham last year, losing by seven wickets in a game that sparked their downfall as they went on to lose five games from their last eight.

However, victory could see the Mayflower men comfortably extend their lead at the top.

Boston had to make do with five points on Saturday as their game at Welby - one in which the club felt theiy could claim all 20 points on offer - was washed out due to the rainy conditions.
