Boston seconds ensure promotion to Premier Division

While Boston’s 1st XI were celebrating their Premier Division championship in the South Lincolnshire & Border League with a 10 wicket win over Lindum Ramblers, Boston 2nds were securing promotion, beating Grantham 3rd to take second place in Division One behind Deeping.

The closest game in the Premier Division was between mid-table sides Grantham 2nd and Billingborough, with Grantham triumphing by just four runs. Danny Ashley hit 72 of Grantham’s total of 148 and went on to take five wickets as Billingborough were bowled out for 144.

Ben Vella took five wickets in Boston’s victory, while Ben Bulmer made 52 and Sumit Puri 51 in Sleaford 2nd’s win over Spalding 2nd.

With Moulton Harrox already in bottom place, the second relegation slot in the top division will go right to the wire after Belton Park lost to Bourne 2nd and Long Sutton went down to Stamford Town.

In Division One, Market Deeping were held to 131 for nine by Freiston only for Nick Andrews to claim five wickets to help bowl the home side out for 74.

Tom Poole hit 81 and Michael Musson 70 to help Boston 2nd notch up 315 for eight against Grantham 3rds, who had no answer to the bowling of Paul Deans, the Boston stalwart taking seven for 20 as Grantham were all out for 79.

In Division Two, Boston 3rds beat Burgh by 16 runs.
