FLL cement second

SLBL Division One

Freiston LL 235-7, Welby Cavaliers 108 - FLL won by 127 runs.

Freiston cemented second place in the SLBL Division One with a comfortable victory over Welby Cavaliers.

A mammoth 152-run partnership for the second wicket between Richard Paul and Abdul Moeed laid the foundations of Freiston’s imposing score of 235.

Having been put into bat, Freiston’s openers looked comfortable before Waseem Ilyas (19) was caught behind off the bowling of Majeed.

Moeed then joined skipper Paul at the crease.

The pair batted sensibly, putting away any bad balls, on a pitch which offered little to the bowlers.

Paul was first to bring up his 50, doing so with a sublime extra cover drive.

Moeed favoured the leg side throughout his innings and went through the gears to bring up his third half century of the season.

Moeed was eventually well caught in the deep by A. Thompson for 91, which included five maximums.

Paul followed soon after, trapped LBW by Matta for 84, having struck four maximums and nine fours.

Freiston did lose wickets towards the end as batsmen batted in a selfless manner.

Matta claimed four wickets for the visitors but Freiston still ended on 235 off their 45 overs.

Tommy Atkinson claimed the first wicket for Freiston, clean bowling Aazeer.

D. Johnson and Matta added 29 before Matta (18) was bowled by Ollie Booth.

Johnson (16) then followed clean bowled by Moeed.

Booth and Moeed then ran through the Welby Cavaliers middle order.

Booth bowled with intelligence and accuracy to claim four wickets, whilst Moeed extracted lavish turn to also claim four wickets.

S. Meadows top scored for Welby Cavaliers with an aggressive unbeaten 31.

Ashok Kumar claimed the final wicket as Welby Cavaliers were dismissed for 108, as Freiston claimed maximum points.
