Paul Green is delighted that Boston United is a club that matches his ambition.

The former Leeds United and Republic of Ireland midfielder returned to the semi-pro game for the first time in 17 years this summer.

After helping Crewe Alexandra secure promotion to League One the 37-year-old decided to turn his back on the pro game and make the move to the Pilgrims.

The chance to win his fifth career promotion was sold to him by neighbour and United manager Craig Elliott.

And with the Pilgrims currently in the National League North play-off spots and the club now playing at their multi-million pound Jakemans Community Stadium, the pieces are falling into place for Green.

"I'm really taken aback how professional the club is run," he told The Standard.

"I knew it would be after speaking to the gaffer in the summer, but the new stadium is unbelievable.

"There's no fans here, which is a disappointment, but they'll be back and behind us as soon they're allowed back in.

"Where the club is and where it wants to go is definitely matching my ambition as well.

"I think all the lads in the changing room, and from the gaffer to the chairman, we all know where the club wants to be. You can see the facilities here match that."

After helping Doncaster Rovers rise from the Conference to Championship in a five-year period, which also included the club moving from their Belle Vue home to the Keepmoat Stadium - where Green now trains with United - the midfielder would love to play his part in helping Boston rise through the ranks.

And he is targeting three more points on Saturday as United travel to Alfreton Town, who they beat 2-0 on Boxing Day.

He added: "They'll fear us more than we fear them, because what we did was wave after wave of attacks. It was just a matter of time until we scored.

"We're not going to take them lightly and we want three points again."
