Tom Platt is backing Boston United to make the most of their games in hand and climb back up the National League North table.

The Pilgrims sit 12th in the standings but very much in the mix - two points behind seventh-place Gateshead with two games in hand and 12 points behind leaders Gloucester City with four games in hand..

“We had a really good start that’s been interrupted by a couple of Covid breaks,” said Platt, who will face former club Alfreton Town on Boxing Day.

“We’ve got games in hand and, obviously, if we win them we’ll be back in a decent position, so it’s important to make the most of them. We have to go and attack those games.”

Platt is a,lso enjoying the new surroundings of the Jakemans Community Stadium.

“It’s unbelievable, even inside the changing rooms,” he said. “When you’re travelling in, it gives you something to look forward to as it’s new and exciting.”

When first launching the plans for the new stadium, chairman David Newton named the club’s former Dr Martens League rivals Burton Albion as the blueprint United hoped to follow.

The new stadium transformed the Brewers’ fortunes as they climbed up to the Football League, reaching as high as the Championship.

Since his arrival at the cub, Elliott has spoken about Harrogate Town in similar terms, having seen ground developments transform them from National League North rivals to a League Two side.

Now Platt, himself a former Harrogate midfielder, hopes the same can be achieved.

He added: “Harrogate had a couple of promotions, so it’s got to be what you’re looking to do if you're looking to improve.

“We have to take it one game at a time and hopefully keep improving and getting there.”
