Boston United’s search for a striker continues.

Last week Craig Elliott revealed a goalscorer was top of his Christmas wish list.

The club held talks with targets and one unnamed player even watched the FA Trophy victory over AFC Fylde at the Jakemans Community Stadium.

But manager Elliott wasn’t convinced that any of those potential additions would be better options than the ones already at his disposal, despite suggesting a new striker may be unveiled soon.

“I do think that will happen and maybe in the next week or two. But theres no big rush,” he said.

“I think Fraser (Preston) has done well and Jay Rollins can play up there, Jordan Thewlis as well. It has to be the right person to fit into the group.

“That’s why I decided against it, it didn't feel the right thing to do at the time. We've got players who can adapt and play there, we need to get the right one.”

Jake Wright has been training with United as he bids to recover from a hamstring injury, but the former Boston, York City and Sheffield United man is still not ready for action.

Forward Jordan Thewlis and midfielder Mitch Rose will be available again when their three-match bans end after tomorrow’s National League North clash at Farsley Celtic.

After seeing his side stretch their unbeaten run to five games with a 2-0 victory over Alfreton Town, Elliott has faith in his squad.

“I could have maybe got a couple of signings in before Christmas and I was umming and ahing about it, but I think, with these players coming back, it was only short term injuries and suspensions,” Elliott added.

“On Saturday (January 2’s trip to Alfreton), hopefully, we’ll have a full squad to choose from.
