Boston United have approached Eastleigh about extending defender Pierce Bird's loan spell.

The 21-year-old defender returned to the club on loan last month and has since featured in the FA Trophy victory over AFC Fylde, league wins over Alfreton and Farsley Celtic and last Tuesday's draw with Kettering.

Now manager Craig Elliott is hoping the player's parent club will allow him to remain part of his plans.

"I want to (extend the loan) and I've asked the question this week, but I believe they're in isolation at the minute," Elliott said.

"I'd like to extend that if there's an option for it."

Bird, who also played four times for Boston on loan from Notts County last season, has already stated he would be happy to remain at the Jakemans Community Stadium.

"He's a good player and did really well for us last year," Elliott added.

"He's come back with a great attitude and done really well. You can see, as a young lad as well, he's only going to get better with games.

"He carries himself like a mature lad around the place and in training, and he's not really had a long run of matches in his career so far.

"For a centre back that's key really. I can honestly see him, if he gets 25 games on the trot, getting a lot more confident and better and learning a lot more about himself."
