A former Boston United academy player has received a prestigious award in the USA.
Joe Briers, 21, received the 2015 All-American college sports award last month, one of only 33 handed out in men’s soccer across the USA.
The defender won a scholarship to play football and major in business studies at Merrimack College, near Boston, Massachusetts.
Following his National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) All-East Region selection, Briers was named an NSCAA All-American.
Joe was named in the NSCAA All-American Third Team after being an All-East Region First Team honoree.
He also received Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Region and Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team distinctions.
He set a series of personal bests during his junior campaign. One of three team captains, he set career highs in goals (six) and assists (four).
He joined the Pilgrims as a 14-year-old and progressed through the ranks to the reserve team.
