United drew 0-0 at Altrincham, but how did they rate?
Lewis King - 7 (out of 10)
Nothing to do until the latter stages. But he kept alert and did well to stop powerful strikes from James Lawrie and Simon Richman.
Jamie McGhee - 8
Jamie McGhee, by trade, is an attacker and not a right back. That may be hard for the casual observer to believe following another powerful display in defence. Those attempting to run at him certainly knew they were in a battle.
Rene Steer - 7
Back from suspension and enjoying the space afforded him by Altrincham’s open style of play. Visibly enjoyed pushing forward and looking to thread in telling passes.
Jay Dowie - 7
He’s basically football’s version of a ninja. Sometimes you don’t even realise he’s there... but he’s breilliantly effective.
Scott Garner - 8
A second clean sheet in a week for the defensive powerhouse. Splendid yet again. It’s becoming a given.
Carl Piergianni - 8 STAR MAN
Should have walked for a clumsy challenge on James Walshaw, even if the defender could argue he’s owed a bit of slack following his Harrogate red card.
Ben Milnes - 7
Looked to spray the ball wide and get United on the attack. Played very well.
Indy Aujla - 7
Set the standard early on with a couple of challenges that certainly wouldn’t help this match get a PG certificate. On a night when United needed all their players to be at their best, Aujla put in a very important shift. Perhaps it’s testament to the ability in this squad that Aujla’s struggled to make the bench at times this season, because he didn’t look out of place.
Ricky Miller - 8
Miller had scored 24 goals and three hat-tricks before this evening. He’s also won a Skrill North Player of the Month award. Although the end product was not the same, I would argue this was his most important performance of the season so far. He ran himself ragged for the cause from start to finish, looked aconstant threat and tracked back with enthusiasm.
Spencer Weir-Daley - 7
Some clever build-up play had the Alty defence on the ropes. Links up so well with those around him. Saw a good effort blocked brilliantly by Scott Leather.
Liam Agnew - 7
A powerful free kick warmed the hands of Coburn early on. Looked a threat pushing forward at speed.
Ben Fairclough (for Aujla 64) - 6
Added speed and power to the team after replacing Aujla, who was one bad move away from ared card.
Stefan Galinski (for Milnes 77)- 6
His first touch was a vital challenge in his own box. Joined the back line and kept the league’s best attack at bay.
Marc Newsham (for Weir-Daley 77) - 6
Late on after his return from injury. Ran the channels well.
Not used: Andy Hewitt, Ian Ross.
