Dennis Greene has described Boston United centre back Carl Piergianni as the best defender in the Vanarama North.
The Pilgrims boss heaped praise on the 22-year-old following two impressive displays which have seen United defeat highflying AFC Fylde and Chorley.
“When Pidge plays like he’s played in the last two games he’s the best centre half in this league,” manager Greene said.
“He’s an absolute colossus. Attacking corners, defending corners, overall play - he’s just an absolute man mountain.
“He’s been a big plus.”
Greene did single out Piergianni for criticism earlier in the campaign, following the 7-2 defeat to Oxford City.
However, he believes that his defender has now returned to the fantastic form he showed last season.
“Pidge had two months away in Thailland in pre-season and I think maybe that caught up with him,” Greene added.
“He then went to uni and there’s a lot of excitement and things going on when you first go to uni, so Pidge will probably put his hands up and say he hasn’t looked after himself properly at times.
“Some of his performances maybe have shown that. But he’s knuckled down in the last few weeks and we’re now seeing the benefit of that.”
Last week Piergianni himself admitted that he felt his form was improving.
Speaking after the Fylde victory, he said: “Maybe (it’s been down to) a bit of complacency from myself, not doing the little things right.
“I focused a lot on doing things right and hopefully I’m back to it and I can continue getting back to my best.”
