BGS youngsters show their skills in sportshall athletics action

BOSTON Grammar School’s year seven representatives finished joint third in the Lincolnshire Sportshall Schools Championships at Grantham on Friday.

The eight-strong BGS team had six event winners in an action-packed programme of sportshall athletics contests and finished only seven points behind winners Kings School, Grantham.

Blake Garwell won the longest individual event on the programme, the six-lap race, recording 86.7 secs and combined with Sam Anthony to finish second in the eight-lap Paarlauf challenge in a time of 52.4 secs.

Freddie Carr won his two individual events, finishing first in both the standing long jump (2.04m) and the standing triple jump (5.68m).

Aaron Bradshaw added maximum points to the Boston total with a standing long jump of 2.08m, and also claimed second place in vertical jump with a leap of 48cm.

He also recorded 24.7 secs in third place in the two-lap race.

Matthew Connelly achieved 43cm in the vertical jump to win his section of the competition.

Alex Hackett also won his individual standing long jump challenge with a clearance of 5.55m.

In the speed bounce, Sam Anthony scored 63 in his 30 second time allocation for second position, and in the same event Tom Evans was third with a score of 63. Harry Limb ran the two-lap race in 26.6 secs to claim third place and Bailey Forth achieved the same position in the vertical jump with a leap of 52cm.

The Boston squad gained further third place points when Blake Garwell, Sam Anthony, Alex Hackett and Tom Evans combined for the 4x2 laps relay, recording 106.6 secs.

A team total of 152 points earned the Boston Grammar School lads joint-third place, together with Horncastle Grammar School.
