Dennis Greene has labelled Sam Vince’s red card as ‘madness’ - but the Boston United manager believes that his goalkeeper will learn from the sending off.

With seven minutes to go and the Pilgrims leading 3-1 against Hyde on Saturday, the stopper received his marching orders following an off-the-ball trip on Steve Tames.

“It’s just madness,” manager Greene told The Standard. “There’s no need to get involved and I’ve told Sam.

“He’s put his team under real pressure, but I feel for Sam. He’s in there and he’s distraught.”

Vince’s sending off means he will face a three-match ban.

Greene added: “He’s got to learn from it, he’s a young lad and he’s had a real decent game.

“Everything he’s had to do he’s done well, he’s had a real solid game and he’ll be distraught.

“He’s got to learn from this and be tough.

“I don’t think this’ll happen again as Sam hasn’t got a bad bone in his body. He’s a real nice lad, I don’t know why he’s got involved.”
