Boston United have missed out on the Skrill North play offs after a 3-0 final day defeat away to Worcester City.
The Pilgrims went into the last day of the season needing to win at Aggborough and for rivals Guiseley to slip up at home to Gloucester City.
The afternoon got off to the perfect start when Billy Jones put Gloucester 1-0 up against the Lions.
Guiseley recovered to win 3-1, although the result did not matter with Dennis Greene’s men failing to get the three points they needed.
Daniel Nti put City ahead in the 53rd minute and seven minutes later Tyler Weir’s strike left the Pilgrims with a mountain to climb.
As Greene threw defender Scott Garner up front to chase the game Weir added another to finally kill off the promotion dream for the Amber and Blacks.
With the game - and the dream - over, Greene gave Andy Hewitt a first team debut in place of Lewis King.
Stefan Galinski’s season then ended on a sour note with a late red card.
Boston United: King (Hewitt), Galinski, Garner, Piergianni, Mills, Konadu (Milnes), Dowie, Agnew, Steer, McGhee (Weir-Daley), Miller.
Attendance 854 (306 from Boston).
