Dennis Greene says the door will remain open for Carl Piergianni to return to Boston United.
The former Peterborough United, Stockport County and Corby Town defender is taking a break from football to go travelling.
However, Greene will not rule out a return for the 2015-16 Player of the Year in the future.
He said: “We wish all the best to Pidge.
“We’ll keep in touch and if one day he does return without a kangaroo then we’ll get him back involved somehow.
“We’ll have to monitor that.
“The fans will miss him as he’s immense.”
Piergianni bid an emotional farewell to the club following their play-off semi-final defeat at North Ferriby United last Sunday.
And he too refuses to accept he’s pulled on the club’s shirt for the final time.
He added: “Who knows?
“I’m not writing it off that there won’t be more days like today.
“I’ll stay in touch with the club and I’ll always look out for their results and be their biggest fan.”
Although Piergianni is hanging up his boots as he travels Asia before moving on to Australia, he admits he may get the bug once again if he settles.
“I really want to see the world, but I’ll stay in shape and if the circumstance comes that there’s a chance to play and I’m settled I’ll look at it,” the central defender added.
“Right now I want a bit of a break.”
