Marc Newsham admits he will look at Brackley Town with envy when the two sides meet on Saturday.
The Saints will arrive at the Jakemans Stadium for the Pilgrims’ final match of the Blue Square Bet North season (KO 3pm).
However, third-placed Brackley still have work to do as they will be involved in the play-offs.
After winning promotion from the UniBond Premier in his first season with Boston, and finishing in the Blue Square Bet North’s top five the campaign after, Newsham became accustomed to competing at the top end.
But the last two seasons have left him, and the rest of the squad, frustrated as the Pilgrims have twice finished well out of the running.
Now Newsham the leading scorer - who has bagged 29 goals so far this term - is fed up of watching others celebrate and wants some glory for himself.
“Last year we were at Hyde away and they won it,” he reflected. “This year we were at Chester and they won it.
“That’s where we want to be. You want to be in football to win things, win promotion, get in the play-offs and stuff like that.
“Playing teams like Brackley and Halifax make you remember that. Hopefully, we can do it next season.”
Newsham believes that to be successful, United need improvement throughout the spine of the team.
He added: “We need to be more consistent. I’ve said it week-in and week-out but we need to stop conceding sloppy goals.
“Maybe we need to take more chances as well.”
Boston United have extended their deal with sponsors Jakemans Confectioners for a further two seasons.
