Boston United manager Dennis Greene has praised his ‘absolutely first class’ defensive pairing of Scott Garner and Carl Piergianni.

However, the Pilgrims boss is aware that if the duo continue to put in impressive performances, other clubs will come knocking, looking to prise them away from York Street.

“I can’t praise those two enough,” said Greene following Saturday’s 3-1 victory at Gloucester City, where both centre backs got on the scoresheet.

“Garner and Pidge have not put a foot wrong all season. They’ve been absolutely first class.”

Garner is still officially a Cambridge United player, on loan with the Pilgrims until January.

Unless United act to extend his stay, the defender could see himself recalled by the U’s or maybe even farmed out to another club for the second half of the campaign.

Greene believes Piergianni will soon receive interest from clubs higher up the footballing ladder.

The manager added: “Scott Garner - to come on loan from another club and show the commitment and attitude he has -has been absolutely incredible.

“He’s a top, top professional and a top player.

“And Pidge should be playing at a higher level.

“I’m sure after a good season with us he’ll have an opportunity to do that.”
