Boston Cricket Club’s First XI took a giant step closer to their dreams of promotion back to the Lincs ECB Premier Division on Saturday.
Kieran Evans’ knock of 116 helped the Mayflower men defeat title rivals Sleaford Seconds by 114 runs to extend their lead at the top of the South Lincs and Border League Premier Division.
But now Tom Baxter’s side face the task of holding onto top spot, beginning with Saturday’s home clash against struggling Spalding Seconds.
Australian Ben Vella remains unavailable, but Dave Newman (pictured) will return to the team following a two-week absence.
“We’ve had two very tough weeks against two good sides and the lads have stood up and been counted while Dave and Ben have been away,” said Baxter, reflecting on the Bourne and Sleaford victories.
Looking forward to the weekend’s contest, the skipper added: “They are nearer the bottom than the top but on their day they could cause us a problem.
“We should be beating teams like that and, if we play to the best of our ability, then we should do that.”
Commenting on Evans’ century, Baxter said: “He worked really hard and I’m so pleased to see him getting his rewards.”
