Dennis Greene wants Boston United to begin creating a winning mentality in their pre-season games.

As the Pilgrims head off to face Lincoln United at Ashby Avenue this evening (KO 7.45pm), the United manager is asking his side to start delivering the goods.

The opening four warm-up matches - a victory against a Norwich City XI, a draw with an Aston Villa side, plus defeats to Spalding United and a Nottingham Forest squad - have seen Boston chop and change their teams as Greene opted to give his squad members and trialists minutes on the pitch.

But as the season fast-approaches, Greene says it is time for his side to forget about match fitness and rediscover their ruthless streak.

“Every person wants to win a football match,” Greene said.

“But in pre-season there’s lots of reasons why you can’t do that, playting trialists, giving everyone a game, things like that.

“I hate losing football matches and even in a friendly I don’t want to lose a game.”
