Boston United’s squad will report back for pre-season training tonight, and manager Dennis Greene is expecting his charges to be in tip-top condition.
The United boss sent out summer training programmes to his team, outlining the work he expected them to do to keep trim during the summer break.
And he hopes that general fitness will be good, even if there is no accounting for a lack of match fitness throughout the summer.
“Everyone knows what we expect of them, and I’m sure everyone will be in good shape when they come back,” Greene said.
“They know the condition their teammates will be in, and I don’t think there’ll be anyone wanting to come back to that and look out of place.”
Dayle Southwell and Scott Garner will be the two new signings linking up with the Pilgrims this week.
While Southwell makes the move to Boston from Grimsby Town and doesn’t expect anyone other than former Mariners teammate Conor Marshall to be a familiar face, Garner will feel right at home, having spent the whole of last season on loan at the Jakemans Stadium.
Ricky Miller, last season’s leading scorer who is currently out of contract, is also expected to join the club for training.
United have confirmed that Norwich City will bring a side to town for a pre-season friendly.
The match will take place at York Street on July 12.
