Boston United boss Dennis Greene has joked he doesn’t need to sign any more defenders, after likening Carl Piergianni to Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The 21-year-old may have been the Pilgrims’ only recognised centre back as the squad reported back for pre-season training on Saturday.
But the physical presence of the former Stockport County and Corby Town man impressed Greene.
“Judging by the training session we had, we won’t need any more defenders,” said Greene, who then compared Piergianni to the Terminator, Commando and Predator star.
“He’s like Arnold Schwarzenegger back there, so maybe we won’t have anyone else there.”
Piergianni (pictured) is one of five summer signings who trained with United at RAF Cranwell at the weekend.
Meanwhile, keeper Ashley Timms, utility man Peter Bore, midfielder Gary Mills and forward Ricky Miller, back at the club for his second stint, also came in for praise from the manager.
Piergianni is the club’s only recognised central defender after Nathan Stainfield and Tom Ward both opted to move on.
And with left back target Josh Wilde staying with Gainsborough Trinity, they appear to be the three positions Greene is keen to bolster.
He continued: “We will need to bring in two or three more.
“It’s time to move on.”
