Tom Ward says ‘security’ is the reason he will not sign a further deal with Boston United.
The defender originally agreed to accept boss Dennis Greene’s offer to stay with the Pilgrims for the upcoming season.
However, today it was revealed that he had decided not to sign the non-contract offer on the table.
Conference North rivals Gainsborough Trinity appear to be the side who turned Ward’s head.
“I needed the security of a contract as I’m at university with no other income,” said Ward, who also has a young daughter to support.
With Nathan Stainfield opting to join Spalding United last week, Carl Piergianni is currently the club’s only recognised centre back.
The Pilgrims report back for pre-season training on Saturday, with Greene hoping to bring in two central defenders as soon as possible.
