Carl Piergianni is loving rekindling his defensive partnership with Scott Garner.
The two were initially brought to Boston United to be Dennis Greene’s first choice pairing at the back two seasons ago, before Garner was pushed into midfield to add some extra ball-winning bite.
But after Saturday’s 2-0 victory at Curzon Ashton, Piergianni said the win felt like old times.
“I really enjoy playing alongside Garns,” he said.
“We both came in at half time and loved it. Me and him at the heart of defence was great.
“I learned a lot from Garns when I first come to the club, and it was great to be playing alongside him.”
The return of Garner to defence has allowed Zak Mills to move to his favoured full back role, and Piergianni believes that having options in the squad can only help the promotion push.
“If we have to we can mix it up to make sure, tactically, we’re stronger,” he added.
“We can have Garns in midfield mixing it up and use Zak’s pace at the back - we look strong. We’ve got covering positions.
“We’ve still got Richard Jones, another defender, to come back. We look good at the right time.”
