Carl Piergianni was all smiles as he got back amongst the goals for Boston United - but the defender was also full of praise for his teammates for a battling performance.

The Pilgrims beat Bradford Park Avenue 3-0 to maintain fifth spot in the National League North, currently four points ahead of sixth-placed Nuneaton.

Piergianni scored twice to take his tally for the campaign to nine, not bad when you consider his last goal came five months ago.

“I’m delighted. It’s great to get back on the scoresheet and amongst the goals,” he said.

“It’s great I’m back on the scoresheet and to see the boys back in form.

“We need to make sure we stay in amongst the play-offs.”

Offering his congratulations to the team for digging their heels in, the defender added: “The pressure was on us but I thought the lads put in a very professional performance and made sure we got the three points.”

Manager Dennis Greene said: “Finally, we kept as clean sheet and it was comfortable.

“Today was about getting four points, if we could get four or five then goal difference could be an extra point.”
