Dennis Greene believes Richard Jones could be back in a Boston United shirt before the end of the season.
The Pilgrims are targeting February as the earliest chance for the defender to become available once again.
Jones suffered a knee injury just 69 minutes into his debut - the 2-1 victory at home to Alfreton - after joining the club from Stamford.
But after a positive scan, Greene is hoping for some good news.
He said: “We’re waiting for another scan.
“The first scan looked positive, all the ligaments are in tact, but he’s now having a second scan, a CT scan, to see whether something’s come away from the bone.
“We won’t know until the scan but February will be at the earliest.”
Meanwhile, Greene believes that Jones’ brother, Mark, could be available within the next fortnight after suffering a hamstring injury.
Boston will return to Solihull Moors on Saturday in National League North action (KO 3pm).
Scott Garner (suspension) and John Sands (illness) look set to return after missing Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Damson Park.
