STRIKER Adam Boyes will have to wait a little longer to make his Boston United debut - as this afternoon’s Blue Square Bet North match at Stalybridge Celtic has been postponed.
A frozen pitch up in the north west has put paid to this afternoon’s contest.
This afternoon would have been the Pilgrims’ first opportunity to showcase new signing Boyes, the 6’2” free agent signing yesterday after being released by Championship outfit Scunthorpe United.
It would also have been their first chance to bounce back after Tuesday’s passionless victory over Redditch, which manager Paul Hurst described as his team’s ‘worst’ performance since took over at the Jakeman’s Stadium.
However, the postponement may be a blessing in disguise for United.
Although their midweek fixtures are adding up following a number of matches being put on hold this season, a weakened Pilgrims were travelling today with centre backs Lee Canoville, Shaun Pearson and Kieran Murphy all ruled out through injury.
Boston would have had to put together a central defensive partnership from youngster Simon Ashton, full back Gareth Jelleyman and central midfielder Anthony Church.
