BOSTON United chairman David Newton has called the Lincolnshire Senior Shield a distraction.

Speaking at the recent Fans Forum he said: “It is one competition I would be quite happy not to win.

“I could easily forsake playing in that competition, but we get fined if we don’t take part.”

Newton has also spoken to the Lincs FA about revamping the tournament and adding Lincoln City, Grimsby Town and Scunthorpe United to the event, which currently involves Boston, Lincoln United, Stamford, Grantham Town and Gainsborough Trinity - but has not yet heard a positive response.

On Tuesday, Boston kick off round one at Lincoln United (KO 7.45pm). They also travel to Rainworth Miner’s Welfare for a friendly on Saturday (KO 3pm).
