Ben Milnes believes that his time on the sidelines can turn him into a better player.

The Boston United midfielder began the first nine competitive matches of the season.

But since then he has seen himself fall down the pecking order, being handed just a further four starts as Conor Marshall, Ian Ross and Jake Hall are currently getting the nod.

“It’s one of the first times in my career I’ve had to deal with it, but hopefully I’ll come out of it a better player,” Milnes said.

“The competition is good and can only bring out the best in us.”

Milnes is used to being a Pilgrims regular.

He made 39 starts and three sub appearances in the 2011-12 season, and 44 starts, plus four from the bench, last campaign.

He added: “It’s been frustrating, but the boys have been doing well and winning games.

“Hopefully, when I get an opportunity I can take it.”
