Dennis Greene says he is yet to decide who will wear Boston United’s number one shirt when the Conference North season kicks off.

The Pilgrims host Barrow at the Jakemans Stadium on August 9, and the manager admits he has a ‘big decision’ to make before then.

Both Sam Vince, who has already made 13 appearances for the first team, and newcomer Matt Gledhill have been in impressive form throughout the pre-season warm-up matches - and that just makes Greene’s decision even tougher.

United are still waiting for international clearance for Irishman Gledhill, who has previously been on the books of Stoke City, Portsmouth and Cork City, meaning Vince was due to take his place between the sticks for last night’s Lincolnshire Senior Cup clash against Gainsborough Trinity.

“They’re both very good goalkeepers and between now and when the season starts I’ve got a big decision to make,” Greene told The Standard.

“Obviously, one of them’s going to be my number one and I’ve got to make a decision nearer to when the season starts.

“(Gledhill) has done great, he hasn’t put a foot wrong. And Vinno hasn’t done a lot wrong either.

“It’s nip and tuck and I couldn’t tell you who’s going to start in goal.”

Jay Dowie has returned to Boston United following a spell on trial at Yeovil Town.
