Jay Dowie says he has returned to action with even more fire in his belly.

The Boston United midfielder missed the opening eight matches of the campaign through injury after picking up an ankle problem in pre-season.

He made his return to action during Tuesday’s 7-2 defeat against Oxford City.

Add those two frustrations together and Dowie says he is more determined than ever to succeed with the Pilgrims.

He said: “It’s horrible watching the games, kicking every ball in the stand.

“But there’s even more fire now for the next game.”

Dowie is hoping for more game time today as United return to Stockport County (KO 3pm).

Last season the Pilgrims kicked off their campaign with a 4-1 victory at Edgeley Park, with goals from Marc Newsham, Spencer Weir-Daley, Ricky Miller and Scott Garner.
