United in the Community and Boston United’s Walking Football Group have won 6-3 in their first competitive friendly against the established Grimsby Town walking football group.
The game took place at Princess Royal Sports Arena, and saw nine participants from United in the Community’s Active Pilgrims walking football group taking part.
A slower version of the fast paced game of football, the sessions are great for men and women who have not played for a while but still have a love for the game.
They are held every week on a Monday evening (7-8pm) at the Peter Paine Sports Centre and Friday evenings (6-7pm) at Haven High Marian Campus.
Coach Dave Scotney said: “Since the sessions started in July, we have seen more people taking part, which is fantastic as it is a great opportunity to play a new sport whilst remaining fit and healthy.
“It’s also a way for participants to socialise, have fun and meet new people.
“I am incredibly proud of the players who took part, and for their 6-3 win in their first competitive fixture.”
The first two sessions are free, and then cost only £2 per session.
They are for all residents aged 50 years and over across the Borough of Boston.
