Left-sided duo Jason Stokes and Kallum Smith will both be playing their football away from Boston United.

Stokes was released by the Pilgrims last night (Monday), while Smith has joined Grantham Town on loan.

Fans’ favourite Stokes thanked the club’s supporters last night via his Twitter account, writing: “Much respect to the Boston United fans.

“Good luck to the lads for the rest of the season.”

Stokes joined the club in the summer after impressing on trial.

However, his pre-season warm-up was stunted as he awaited international clearance to play for United, after spending part of last season with Belgian side Royal Racing Montegnee.

However, he went on to make 13 starts and eight substitute appearances for the Pilgrims, although that goal he wanted so much eluded him.

Smith has joined the Gingerbreads on a month’s loan, perhaps a deal sweetener after Grantham allowed defender Phil Watt to tear up his contract to join Boston.

The fellow left-sided winger has made seven starts and 13 appearances from the bench this campaign, following his switch from Lincoln United late last season.

Manager Graham Drury made the changes after admitting he would have to ship players out in order to make room for new additions.

The left side was perhaps somewhere he believed to be oversubscribed.

During Saturday’s draw at Workington, he had three left wingers on the bench as unused subs - Stokes, Smith and Ben Fairclough.

Strikers Mark Newsham and Mark Jones have both played out on that flank this season, while new addition Jordan Smith could perhaps slot in there as well.

United host Harrogate Town in Blue Square Bet North action tonight.

Kick off is at 7.45pm.
