Connor Dimaio extends Boston United stay - and Craig Elliott can't wait for fans to see 'unbelievable talent' close up

Conor Dimaio is staying at Boston United - and boss Craig Elliott believes the fans are in for a real treat.

With last season played behind closed doors, Pilgrims supporters have not had the chance to see the playmaker up close yet.

But after the 25-year-old signed a deal to remain at the Jakemans Community Stadium, Elliot hopes that will all change very soon.

"He's in what probably should be his peak years now, to be honest," the manager said.

"He's an unbelievably talented player and when the fans get to see him close up they'll see the talent he's got, his speed and his vision.

"That creativity is what's needed and I brought him to the club to do that.

"Fans will appreciate him when they see him properly. He gets the ball in tight areas, a bit like Andi Thanoj. He's got unbelievable feet."

Former Chesterfield, Stockport County and Curzon Ashton midfielder Dimaio joined the Pilgrims last summer, scoring once in 15 appearances.

But that goal - an inch-perfect 25-yard curler in the FA Trophy contest with AFC Fylde - gave supporters a glimpse of what he can do.

Now Elliott is challenging Dimaio - a former Republic of Ireland youth international - to produce the goods more regularly.

He added: "I think he needs to get a few more goals to his game, but after another full pre-season with us and knowing what I expect, I think he'll contribute a lot for us.

"I think he's a player that needs a run of games to get that tempo to his game.

"I see him as coming up to that stage in his career, is he going to play 30-40 games and get into double figures with assists and goals? If he does that he'll have had a good season.

"It's important now in his career that he enters these next two or three seasons and tries to play the best he's played. Hopefully that's for Boston."

Dimaio is the 10th member of last season's squad to agree to remain at the club and he will once again link up with Peter Crook, Scott Garner, Luke Shiels, Matt Tootle, Paul Green, Tom Platt, Jordan Burrow, Fraser Preston and Jay Rollins.
