Craig Elliott aware of Altrincham threat, but wants Boston United to give York Street story its fairytale ending

Boston United are one victory away from promotion to the National League... and Craig Elliott is challenging his Pilgrims to give the York Street story a fairytale ending.

But rivals Altrincham - who won 2-0 at York City in the final game at Bootham Crescent last week - want to spoil the farewell party in Lincolnshire as well when the two sides meet in Saturday’s National League North play-off final.

“They’re in form, look at their record since December,” manager Elliott said of the Robins.

“They’ve been fantastic, on a great run.

“They’ve got a good way of playing. It’ll be difficult but you expect nothing more in a play-off final.”

Boston thrashed Altrincham 5-0 at York Street in August.

But similarly to the previous campaign, the Robins started sluggishly before powering their way to top gear.

“Both teams have had good seasons, they did well in the FA Cup as well,” Elliott added.

“I think it’s two contrasting styles but we’re both there on merit.

“Maybe other teams didn’t talk about us too much, you heard about your Chesters, Gatesheads and Yorks, but we believe in ourselves and they will.

“It comes down to this one game and it’s really exciting.”

Elliott has assembled a squad packed with big-game experience, which he hopes will pay off as nerves kick in this weekend.

This has allowed the manage to concentrate this week’s focus on leaving York Street on a high.

“We’ve got a bit of experience in there. A lot of them know what it’s about but what I’ve tried to get across is the magnitude of the game,” Elliott continued. “We couldn’t have written the script any better.

“We’ve got to make the dream a reality now, the last-ever game at York Street and there’s an opportunity for us to make history.

“But the hardest task is turning that into reality now.”

Saturday’s contest kicks off at 3pm.
