Elliott wants to stick with winning formula as Boston United host Guiseley

Craig Elliott won’t be playing tinkerman when Boston United meet Guiseley.

The unbeaten Pilgrims host the Lions on Tuesday evening, looking to extend their 100 per cent record.

Boston returned from their two-week self isolation period on Saturday as they beat AFC Telford United 3-2, kicking off the season with three straight wins.

Asked whether he would be looking to re-jig his starting XI as his side faced two games in three days after a fortnight’s inactivity, the United boss suggested he’d be sticking with a winning formula.

“I don’t want to go down the route of changing for the sake of resting when we’re doing well,” Elliott said, expecting a physical test from the Lions.

“Guiseley play similarly to Telford so I’ll expect a similar battle, to be honest.

“I think we just want some consistency (in the team) but with everything going off (COVID-19 postponements and player unavailability) you have to try to get the wins when you can as you don’t know what's round the corner.”

The Pilgrims boss has started virtually the same side in his two National League North matches to date, the only change being Jordan Thewlis replacing the unavailable Fraser Preston at the weekend.

Elliott says there were a ‘few bumps and bruises’ in the camp, most notably left back Scott Duxbury, who was treated for a gash on his left leg in the Telford victory but was able to continue.

“We're good to go,” Elliott added.

“This league, they’re all difficult games in their own ways, but it'll be great if we can get back-to-back wins (this week), it just propels you to those places you want to be in.

Guiseley, who have ex-Pilgrims Jonathan Wafula and Kaine Felix in their squad, began the campaign with a 4-0 win over Blyth Spartans before being beaten 1-0 by Hereford.

In the FA Cup they progressed past Atherton Collieries and nine-man Matlock Town before exiting the competition at FC United of Manchester on Saturday, losing 2-1 to a 90th-minute winner.

Elliott has enjoyed a good record against Guiseley with Boston.

Last season the two sides drew 1-1 at York Street in August while the previous season the United manager oversaw 1-0 and 5-4 victories.
