Craig Elliott is backing Fraser Preston to carve out a career in the Football League after getting used to the 'culture shock' of leaving Sheffield Wednesday.

The 22-year-old has signed a new deal with Boston United, and the Pilgrims boss believes a successful year at the Jakemans Community Stadium could kickstart a return to the pro game.

Preston played 12 times for United last season after leaving the Owls, scoring twice.

"I've seen a lot of him close up and I do think he'll benefit from a full pre-season with us," Elliott said.

"People don't always realise he came in pretty late, so he missed a large chunk of that.

"I think as well he admitted that, mentally, leaving Sheffield Wednesday was a bit of a culture shock - coming into that part-time environment.

"But I've seen first hand he's got a lot of quality and 100 per cent the ability to get back into the Football League.

"He just needs to get that pre-season run of games and I'm expecting really good things from him."
