Craig Elliott admits he was 'lucky' to be able to land Joe Leesley.

The winger linked up with the Pilgrims on loan from Harrogate Town earlier this month, coming off the bench during the abandoned contest at Darlington.

Since then he has been out of action as the Pilgrims have been forced to self isolate following a positive Covid-19 test.

But Elliott believes Leesley - who helped Harrogate win promotions from the National League North to the Football League and also had a loan spell at league Two Stevenage Borough last season - will be an asset to the Pilgrims.

"We're very lucky to get him, dropping down as he was in League Two last year with Stevenage," Elliott said.

"He's got good experience of getting promotions - he knows what success looks like.

"He knows this league and he gives us lovely balance and competition for places on both wings."

It was a case of second time lucky for Elliott, who attempted to bring in Leesley during the closed season.

"Joe's somebody I've been after for quite a while, in particular in the summer," he added.

"He's a good age. I think his stats at this level are very very impressive in terms of assists and goals.

"He's been on a journey that we want to go on, similar to Harrogate's really.

He lives near to the training in Doncaster and he knows most of the lads. I know him as well and he seemed to be a good fit."
