Boston United have received another huge boost after midfielder Tom Platt committed his future to the club.

A day after announcing skipper Luke Shiels will remain at the Jakemans Community Stadium for next season, the Pilgrims have unveiled the influential stopper as the latest member of last season's squad to remain with the club.

"It's similar to Shielsy, he's come in, loved his time here and he's wanted to stay," manager Craig Elliott said.

"He's been so consistent and the die-hard fans know what he does for the club.

"He does all that ugly side of the game. But not only that, he's an unbelievable lad to manage - no fuss.

"He gets on with things and he's receptive to information. I'm really happy to get Platty over the line."

Platt - who has scored three times in 54 appearances for United - has revelled in his role as the first line of defence, hovering in front of the back four and breaking down opposition attacks in their infancy.

And with that type of player becoming something of a rarity, Elliott is excited to see the Pilgrims' 2019-20 Players' Player of the Year return.

"There's not many about in modern non-league. He's happy to do the ugly side," he added.

"Even in training he just gets on with his job, never moans.

"He's a top lad but he also plays a big part defensively. We've had one of the best defences in the league over the last two seasons and he played a big part in that.

"The keeper and back four get a lot of credit, but he played a big part as well."

United now have Platt, Shiels, Scott Garner and Jordan Burrow signed up for next season.
