Jordan Burrow believes he will fit in nicely with Boston United’s battlers.

The striker was impressed by the Pilgrims’ high-energy displays last season after facing Craig Elliott’s side with former club York City, something which convinced him to move to the Jakemans Community Stadium.

“I think at York last year we probably only got out-worked, out-ran and out-fought in one game and that was away at Boston,” the 27-year-old said, reflecting on the Minstermen’s 3-1 defeat in Lincolnshire.

“We went 1-0 up and they were a very, very tough team to play against. The physicality and intensity was something that jumped out at me and made me think I’d like to be a part of that.

“I think I’ll fit in well into the way they play - high-energy, high-tempo. That was also a deciding factor.”

Burrow - who scored twice during an eight-game loan spell at Boston from Chesterfield in 2011 - was also impressed by Elliott’s desire to bring him to the club.

“He contacted me pretty much straight after the play-off final and that signified their intent to try to sign me,” added the striker, who turned down higher-level clubs to link up with the Pilgrims.“It’s a massive club, a club I’ve played for before and a club that’s got ambition.

“They just missed out last year, and that’s what jumped out on me.

“You sit back, weigh things up. Boston’s a massive club with a great fanbase and I know that from being at the club and also going back and playing there.

“The crowd are quite hostile and it’s a great atmosphere to play in.

“I got a bit of stick when I went back with York, but that’s all part and parcel and you have to enjoy it. Hopefully now they’ll be cheering my name as opposed to the other way round.”

While United are still smarting from their 1-0 play-off final defeat to Altrincham, Burrow knows exactly how they feel as his City side were beaten by the same opposition at the semi-final stage.

Now he hopes the frustration he and his new teammates are feeling can spur Boston on.

“To be top of the league when the season was ended and not be promoted automatically was a bitter pill to swallow,” Burrow said.

“But football moves on fast. It’s moved on fast for York, they’ve recruited new players, and a new season will be upon us before we know it.

“It’s the same with Boston. There’s always new challenges ahead of you and that’s one of the things I’m looking forward to.

“Hopefully we can go one better and win promotion.”
