Josh Askew has joined National League North rivals Chester after leaving Boston United.

The summer signing was omitted from Saturday’s squad - which played out a goalless draw against the Seals - after manager Craig Elliott revealed the left back ‘had his head turned’ by a rival.

Askew was a non-contract player with the Pilgrims, meaning he was able to speak to an interested club following a seven-day period after an approach was made.

This week Askew tweeted that the Pilgrims had waived the seven-day period to allow him to speak to his suitors early.

It has not been confirmed when Chester - who lost left back Joel Taylor to Chesterfield last week - made their approach, but Elliott’s comments suggest it was in the build up to the weekend’s match.

Askew played under Seals bosses Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson at former club Salford City.
