BOSTON Town kicked off their United Counties League Premier Division campaign with a 3-0 victory at Newport Pagnell.

Danny Matson struck twice and Shane Clancy was also on target for the Poachers.

Manager Martyn Lakin had played down his side’s chances this season, suggesting rivals Spalding United, Holbeach United and King’s Lynn all had more muscle when it came to bringing in the players these opponents are all vying for.

But it was two of his summer signings that proved the difference, and set the Poachers off to a great start at a side who finished 22 points ahead of them in the table last campaign.

Matson struck in the 34th and 87th minutes, while Clancy netted in the 65th minute.

Town now host rivals Holbeach on Tuesday (KO 7.45pm).
