DANNY Matson saw red as Boston Town lost an ill-tempered derby against rivals Holbeach United last night.

The forward - who turned down the Tigers to join the Poachers in the summer - was dismissed midway through the first half, after being adjudged to have elbowed United defender Jamie Stevens off the ball.

And that proved to be the game’s major turning point.

The Tigers had taken the lead in the third minute through Ash Stevens’ free kick.

Back came Boston, with Alex Beck’s effort nodded in by Tom James in the 13th minute.

Ex-Poacher Paul Goodhand limped off with an injury midway through the first half, but it was Town who were to suffer the biggest blow when Matson was red carded moments later.

From that point on tempers frayed.

Town - feeling hard-done by - seemed to concentrate too much on getting a Tigers opponent sent off to even the numbers up, rather than their football.

In the secodn half, Holbeach made good use of the extra man, as Town tired.

Holbeach went 2-1 up after 64 minutes, another ex-Poacher Ben Brown finding the net, and the hosts only rarely threatened a second equaliser.

TOWN: Wright, Clancy, Wood, Smith, Foster (Bull), Pinner, James, Beck, Borbely (Ruck), Matson, Parker (Foreman).
