Josh Askew was delighted to be back on the pitch as he helped Boston United claim a 1-0 win at Blyth Spartans.

The left back hadn't featured for the Pilgrims since October 3's 4-2 FA Cup win against AFC Mansfield, with Scott Duxbury filling that role over the past two months.

But Askew put in an energetic performance after being handed his league debut for the Pilgrims at Croft Park last night.

"It's been a long time coming," he told Boston United's YouTube channel.

"I've been putting it in in training, hoping for a chance and, luckily tonight, I got it and I'd like to think I played one of my best games.

"It's about being patient and waiting for that chance.

"We made it hard for ourselves but three points and a clean sheet is all that matters."

United were on top throughout the contest, but it took Scott Garner's 52nd minute strike to settle the contest in the visitors' favour, leaving Craig Elliott calling on his attackers to produce more goals.

Askew beliebves lessons have been learnt from Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Chorley.

He added: "You could feel it, you knew there was a goal coming.

"It was waves at times of attack, attack, attack and their keeper pulled off some worldies.

"It's good that we come in off the back of a 2-0 defeat and had that many chances, it shows every one of us have through about the game at the weekend and wanted to do it right."
