Craig Elliott believes he has exactly the right characters in his dressing room to cope with the problems thrown at them by a Covid-hit season.

It has already been a season like no other with matches postponed and forfeited due to positive tests in the camp.

But Boston United boss Elliott has faith that his team of seasoned pros and hungry youngsters have exactly the right mentalities to battle beyond any irregularities this season.

"You always try to sign the right people as well as the right players," Elliott said.

"Sometimes the characters don't turn out to be like you think they're going to be, but I've got to say this year they've been brilliant.

"it's easy to say that when you're winning, but I think you see that in training. They're so professional.

"In the two-week lockdown there were so many leaders in there that look after themselves."

As well as keeping themselves match-ready, Elliott believes his more experienced players are also bringing an added positivity to the camp.

"I can feel it again in the dressing room, when you don't have to be that voice as much as a manager," added Elliott, who guided Shaw Lane to three promotions before his switch to Boston.

"You've got five or six players who are doing that for you and that's when you know you've got a good dressing room. Long may that continue.

"I've said it before to my management team, it reminds me of when we were winning promotion with Shaw Lane.

"You can feel that, the players are leading it. It's what you want.

"Ultimately, it is about the players and them setting their own standards and, like I said, the perfect example was when we had two weeks away.

"They were all on the front foot, nobody came back sluggish.

"We'll get a few bumps but I'm confident we've got a bit of resilience in there now, that can handle any difficult times."
