Scott Garner wants to make some magical memories with Boston United - at York Street and the new Community Stadium.

The Pilgrims defender says that returning to the club during its final season at the Jakemans Stadium is the ‘dream scenario’ for him.

And he is already plotting a glorious farewell.

“The new stadium is a real chance for the club to make a big statement,” Garner told The Standard.

“We want to win promotion. We want to win it this year, to be walking out the tunnel at the new stadium in a new league would be something special for everyone.

“But if we don’t go up this year then we’ve got a top squad, great manager and a new stadium, which means we should be the favourites for promotion next season.

“Boston’s a massive club and the things going on off the pitch should only help attract the best players to the place.”

Garner spent three seasons with United between 2013 and 2016, as the club reached two pay-off semi-finals, suffering a penalty-shootout defeat to Chorley and a 3-2 aggregate loss against North Ferriby.

After joining FC Halifax Town he scored the winning goal in extra-time to secure a 2-1 victory over Chorley in the 2017 play-off final, claiming that coveted promotion at the third time of asking.

Now, after returning to United from Guiseley, Garner still has the same hunger for success.

“I’m absolutely loving it. It’s brilliant. We’re on a good run, strong team and it’s all going well,” he said.

“There’s a lot of excitement around the club, we feel we can achieve promotion.

“Being back around the place, the fans, the new stadium, I’m buzzing to be back.”

Plans to move Boston to their out-of-town development were already released when Garner first left Boston for the Shay, so to be back before the move is extra-special for the defender.

“When I left the club there was talk about the new stadium going ahead, so it feels like the dream scenario for me to be back for that,” he added.

“Personally, for me it’s great to be back at the club, but to be in a positive position is fantastic.

“The club’s not standing still either. The manager’s bringing in players, but they’re all top players.

“We’re on a good run and pushing to be up there, we’re one of the power teams in the league.

“There are some massive characters in the dressing room, every bit as big as before.

“Its an established group, they know each other and this league, but they’ve all proven themselves.

“We all get on but the best way to earn respect is to go out and play your best game and do something positive for the team, and we’re all doing that.”
